THE 50 Kaitenz

I've been doing a lot of artwork for a lot of different bands lately, I am hoping I can post all of the information before it becomes too out-of-date. Things are going crazy here, what with the Best of PUNK Magazine book release in November, and the other things going on. Anyhow, here's the CD cover artwork for the amazing, awesome, and unbelievable Japanese punk rock band The 50 Kaitenz:

You know what is so important about this record cover to me? I hand-lettered all of the stuff you see on the record cover. I am not even sure exactly what the name of the record is, it apparently means something like "Rock and Roll Music Around the World." (Which reminds me of a very fine song by Alvin Lee of Ten Years After.)

But I did a damn fine job of lettering it, don't you think?

The 50 Kaitenz band wanted me to do a kind of Rocket to Russia take-off here, can you see the reference? They also made buttons out of the global icons they asked me to draw for the CD cover, which featured the caricatures I did of them:

I also did a great drawing of their back cover, I'll upload that later. They sold all this stuff on a very successful concert tour, by the way. I am not sure how anyone can buy the buttons or t-shirts, but you can always search for 50 Kaitenz in Japan.

Find their music! I've seen The 50 Kaitenz CDs on amazon.com once in a while. Give it a search. Get these CDs before they are gone! This band is gonna be big! Heck, they are already big in Japan! HEY! You want a genuine John Holmstrom rare, rock 'n' roll collectible artifact or not?

GOLD!!!

I have to say that the most unexpected use of my work to date was when Moussy (pronounced Moo-cee), made some gold jewelry with my work.

As in: "ARE YOU KIDDING ME? HOW COOL IS THIS??? WOWIE WOW WOW!"

I never ever imagined that my artwork would be made into a gold object. But my team in Japan made it happen, thanks to the very cool people at Moussy, who also produced the Juice cans, the rice cookies, and so much more with my work.

It's difficult to photograph the beautiful jewelry that Moussy made with my work, but I am so happy to present a few images here. They made so many items: rings, necklaces, etc. I get the feeling these will become collector items, since everyone I show these things to goes a little bit nuts and wants to grab them out of my hands!

I drew a few different drawings, as you can see.

All in the PUNK magazine-logo style.

And yeah, I am not really a "metal head," but they asked me to draw some "devil-horns." I have to admit that they look very cool! Please tell me what you think! Am I wrong?
